Our MissionKnowing that Jesus Christ died Our mission is to put God first Our HistoryIn 1828, a Methodist Society began meeting at the Union Grove School near Hillsborough, North Carolina. By 1846, these infrequent meetings had evolved into the Union Grove Methodist Protestant church. Meetings remained infrequent until 1961, members began holding services on a more regular basis. In 1852, William McCauley deeded the log school building and three acres of land to the church. In 1871, Nancy Long deeded a five-acre site to the church, in exchange for the original three acres of land. A one-room frame building was constructed. In 1968, the church's name changed to Union Grove United Methodist Church. During our 100th year (1946), members laid the cornerstone for the current stone building with four Sunday School rooms. In 1958, W.A. Davies donated land adjoining the church for a parsonage, and by 1965, church members had constructed the stone fellowship hall. During the 1960s and 1970s, the church and its grounds underwent many renovations, due in part to the generous gifts in the will of W.A. Davies, who also deeded the church 120 acres of land as a memorial to his grandparents, Thomas and Margaret Long. In the past two decades, more repairs and renovations, including landscaping, new signs, a new music system, new Sunday School rooms in the fellowship hall, new pew cushions, and new choir robes and stoles, have enhanced our church's appearance and activities. Union Grove's religious influence in the community continues to reflect the visions of those who first met in the log school house in 1828. Last modified:
