“I came that they may have life, and have
it abundantly.” John 10:10b
A New Worship and Bible Study Series
Sunday, April 18- May 23
Not plain as in ordinary, but plain as in clear and to the point. Simple as in uncomplicated and straightforward; embracing that which is really important. Abundant as the way God intends life to be, the way life is when we are able to let go of all that other stuff that somehow keeps pulling us away.
If we are an Easter People, if we really believe that Jesus came, lived, was crucified and resurrected that we might know life, why do we struggle so with life? Why does our world not look more like God intends?
Join us each week in worship, Sunday School and in Bible study on Sunday or Wednesday nights as we are challenged to take a closer look at the way we live and what it means to be a follower of Christ!
Sunday, April 18: Acts 9:1-20,
New … Life
On the road to Damascus Saul was blinded by the light of God’s love and his life was forever changed. How about us? If God’s greatest gift of love was given for us on Good Friday, have our lives been changed? Have we experienced the new life God desires for each of us?
Sunday, April 25: Acts 9:36-43, Giving … Life
Jesus’ life is for us the living example of servant hood, generosity and giving. Through the disciples the torch has been passed on to us. Are we giving life to others through the gifts and blessings God has bestowed on us as individuals and Christ’s Church?
Sunday, May 2: Acts 12:1-18,
Life … Lost
Herod had James the brother of Jesus killed and then, because the church leaders were so pleased with his actions, went on to arrest Peter. Our society is a bit more subtle. The Christian life is usually taken from or given up by us, one decision, one distraction at a time. Everyday life seems void, overbooked and anxious. The Sabbath is filled with much besides the worship of God. Are we giving away the life that Christ came to bring?
Sunday, May 9: Acts 16:9-15,
Simple … Life
Our world seems to revolve around the adage, “the more complicated the better.” Yet Scripture and,…oh yes, Jesus, seem to teach us that it is the simple things that mean the most. Are the simple important things in life being pushed aside by all that other stuff that we do because we feel like we have to?
Sunday, May 16: Acts 16:16-34,
Life … Shaken
You are working hard, trying to do what is right, trying to be faithful. And then you get slammed. At home, at work, by friends or family, by a world which has embraced power and wealth over humility and justice, what should, could, ought to happen…doesn’t not always work out. What do we do, where do we turn when our faith, when life is shaken?
Sunday, May 23 Acts 2:1-21, Life … Committed
The Old Testament teaches us to give ten percent. Jesus says we are to give all. What does it mean to life in such a way that we are “committed” to God’s will? What are the areas in our lives where we are falling short in our commitment to Christ’s calling? |
